Survivor Speaker
Curt Ghormley lives with his wife Lynn in Benton, Kansas, a small town outside Wichita. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas and an MBA from Wichita State University.
In 2022, Curt's world was turned upside down with an unexpected diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a fast-moving cancer that kills 12,000 Americans each year. Doctors also identified a rare genetic mutation of white blood cells, the dreaded FLT-3 variant, that reduces the five-year chance of survival to less than 15 percent. Curt spent 83 days in the hospital with multiple life-threatening complications, but still managed to post a social media journal update every day, except for his time in the Intensive Care Unit.
After retiring from a successful career as a communications technology sales manager with a Fortune 500 company, he was suddenly plunged into the fight of his life. By God's grace, he has survived it - so far - with his trademark optimism, resiliency, and humor.
Curt and Lynn have two sons. Both boys completed college degrees and served stints in the U.S. Army, spending some harrowing time down-range in distant dusty places, and thankfully coming back in one piece. They are both married and gainfully employed in the private sector. There are three grandchildren.
Curt's hobbies are reading, woodworking, welding, four-wheeling, shooting, and playing the tuba.

Kathy Bridges lives in Andover with her husband Tom. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Dubuque in Iowa, and retired in 2018 after nearly 34 years with Boeing/Spirit Aerosystems. She now works part time as a wine consultant in a local liquor store and for private gatherings.
Kathy grew up in a family with a history of melanomas and has had an eyebrow-raising number of melanomas, dysplastic nevi, squamous cell carcinomas, and just plain freckles removed. With her first melanoma in 1974, and her most recent this summer, she has learned to treat her cancer with a "small c", as a way of life. Over the years, she has been able to share her story and her attitude with many others to show them that there can be life after cancer, and with increasing self-awareness and early interventions, skin cancers can have good outcomes. She has also been part of a national research project on familial malignant melanomas since 1979. She believes God has blessed her richly.
Kathy and Tom have a son and a daughter, and one granddaughter, all living locally. When not cheering on the Shocker basketball team, they love to travel and build memories together. Additionally, Kathy loves to read, cook, and participate in wine-related events, along with church and volunteer activities.

Cayci Carter is a 7-time cancer survivor who uses her experience to share her cancer story. Her passion is to share and validate the real cancer patient experience and help those dealing with the disease to claim their space in the world. When she's not speaking as a Certified Life Coach, she is driving her hot rod, working with her women-focused charities, going to concerts, and babying her cats.
The American Cancer Society is the leading cancer-fighting organization with a vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. We are the only organization improving the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
